Since its inception in April 2020, the COVID-19 Community Care Program: Food & Pharmacy helped ensure residents of the GPREP service area had continued access to essential items, like food and medication, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The GPREP service area includes; the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley and the Village of Hythe.
The Community Care Program is funded by the Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta until the end of March 2021. The last day to access the program is March 31, 2021.
The program was dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals and families – those who were isolated due to COVID-19 and who had no other supports available and were in urgent need of food, medication, and essential goods.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, GPREP fulfilled 97 requests for assistance through the Community Care Program, with most requests coming within the first 3 months of program start. Since October 2020, 7 requests for assistance have been fulfilled.
