Oil Lease Fire Under Control; GPREP Deactivated – Update 2

The fire on an oil lease near Range Road 81 and Township Road 722A is under control.

Results of air quality monitoring found no current risk to the public around the site, which can sometimes result from a fire of this nature. Air quality in the area may be reduced while the fire continues to burn.

The owners of the oilfield lease, Anegada Oil Corporation, are taking over the response which involves a controlled burn until the fire is safe to extinguish. The Alberta Energy Regulator and County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service remain on site.

As the fire is under control and there is no concern for public safety at this time, the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) has been deactivated.
