Face Covering, Masks, & Other PPE

Face Covering, Masks, and other PPE

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership has compiled information and recommendations to help residents and businesses navigate how and when to use face coverings, masks and other PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Medical Masks

Medical masks include N95 masks and surgical or procedure masks. These should be kept for health care workers and other providing direct care to COVID-19 patients.

Non-Medical Masks

Wearing a non-medical mask, such as a homemade cloth mask, has not been proven to protect the person wearing it. However, it may be helpful in protecting those around you. These guidelines from the Government of Alberta provide steps you can take if you choose to wear a non-medical mask: How to choose and wear a non-medical mask to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Currently, Alberta has adequate stocks of PPE thanks to pre-pandemic planning and ongoing efforts to secure supplies that continue to arrive. However, the COVID-19 Pandemic is an unprecedented event with an unknown duration and we cannot take our PPE supplies for granted.

During this time, it is vital that a careful distribution protocol is followed to support those at the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19.
